Character Qualities Based on the Bible
It is our desire at Southside to teach our students to use the Bible, God’s authoritative word, as the guidebook for choices in life. In each grade, we focus on one important character quality for the year and memorize Scripture that teaches us what God’s Word says about that character trait.

Character Quality: Servant Leadership
Scriptures:
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: who, being the very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death- even death on a cross!” Philippians 2:3-8

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24

In order to promote servant leadership in our 7th & 8th grade students, we require each student to volunteer 5 hours of service time per trimester. Students are asked to volunteer at a church, in their neighborhood, and in their community.
